Head Boys Coach/Sprints/Relays/Hurdles -   J.T. Ayers

Coach Ayers is a 2 time Orange County Track Coach of the Year and has been coaching Track and Field for 9 years. His coaching career began in 2005 at THHS as the Hurdle and Sprint coach. In his first year as head coach in 2008, he lead the Mustangs to a Sea View League Championship.

This past season the Boys 2016 Team won its first South Coast League Title, were ranked #1 in Orange County and Coach Ayers was named the 2016 Boys Coach of the Year. Since taking over as head coach in 2014 Coach Ayers' athletes have broken 14 grade level and school records. 

Coach Ayers spent one year coaching at Redwood High School in Visalia, California in 2010. That year his team was Team WYL Champions, Team Area Meet Champions, and Team Runner Up for CIF Central Section Finals. That team also ran the 3rd fastest time in the nation in the 1600 Sprint Medley of 3:28.76.

After a successful year in the Central Valley, Coach Ayers was recruited and hired by Orange Lutheran High School to be their boys and girls Track and Field Head Coach. In 2013 his Boys Team won the Division 3 CIF Championship and placed 7th in State. He was named O.C. Boys Track and Field Coach of the Year for 2013. It was the most successful season in Orange Lutheran’s history. Also while at Orange Lutheran, Coach Ayers' team won a Orange County Frosh-Soph team title and his athletes currently hold 3 Orange County records.

Coach Ayers is an Alumni from THHS and competed on the Track Team in Sprints, Relays and Hurdles. Do to an injury, Coach Ayers was unable to compete at the university level at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, however he received his B.A. in History and then went on to receive his Teaching Credential and Masters in Coaching and Athletic Administration. He is currently the Executive Director of CoachAyers.com and teaches full time at Trabuco. 

Coach Ayers has been married to Jessica for 12 years and have 4 children. Jordan, Ezekiel, Reese, and Calvin.


Head Girls Coach/Sprint/Relays  -  Dennis Kelly

Coach Kelly begins his ninth year as head girls' track and field coach, and will be in charge of girls' sprints and relays. Coach Kelly is also a sophomore English teacher at THHS, teaching both College Prep and Workshop classes, and this past cross country season he coached both girls and boys' freshmen cross country teams.

Coach Kelly attended St. Maria Goretti Grammar School in Long Beach, St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, and earned degrees and a teaching credential at CSU Dominguez Hills. Coach Kelly is married to Erica, and has a very supportive family that he is very proud of.


Head Distance -    Liam Clemons

Coach Clemons enters his 14th year as the boys and girls Head Distance Coach for Track & Field. He is also the Director of Cross Country and coaches the Boys varsity track team. Coach Clemons has been named the Orange County Coach of the Year twice (2006 and 2011) and the California Coach of the year (2011). His Cross Country teams have won six league titles, four Orange County titles, and two State titles. He has coached multiple CIFSS and State finalist in Track & Field, including the 2010 1600m State Champion, Jantzen Oshier.

Coach Clemons is a full-time member of the Trabuco Hills teaching staff in the Science department. He currently teaches AP Environmental Science and Biology. He attended Humboldt State University, where he earned a BA in Journalism and Mass Communication in 2001. He then earned his teaching credential in Biological Sciences from CSU Fullerton in 2006 and a MA in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University in 2012.

Coach Clemons has over 25 years of competitive running experience, and currently competes in races from the 1500m to the Marathon. His most notable achievement is qualifying for and finishing the Boston Marathon in 2016. In 1995, he captained his high school Cross Country team to a Div. 1 State Championship. In college, he was the NorCal Champion in the 3000m Steeple Chase and finished fifth at the State Championships while attending American River College.

Coach Clemons and his wife, Melissa, have been married for 14 years and have two sons, Micah and Lucan.


Assistant Sprint (Boys)  -  Chad Rozean

Coach Rozean graduated from the University of Arizona in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a minor in Communications.  This is his first year as a track coach at Trabuco.  He is an alumnus of the Trabuco Hills Class of 2010. He participated in both football and track his first two years at Trabuco.  As a freshman football player he was named Defensive Player of the Year.  As a sophomore he played for both the JV and Varsity teams, including the varsity team’s journey to the CIF Southwest Division Championship Game.  Following his sophomore year he chose to focus on track. 

Coach Rozean served as a Track Team Captain his sophomore, junior, and senior years.  He was a major contributor to the 2009 Sea View League Team Title. He is currently the school’s record holder in the 400m, and a member of the record holding DMR team.  He holds the 2nd fastest Orange County Championships time in the 400m at 47.87. He was the 2010 California State Indoor Champion for the 600yds, and is currently the Orange County Indoor 600yd record holder.  While at Trabuco he received All-League and All-County honors, and competed at both the state and national level.  Coach was a member of the 3rd fastest DMR team in the nation as a sophomore, earning the title of All American. 

Coach Rozean went on to Waco, Texas and Baylor University on a track scholarship where he gained valuable knowledge and experience at the Division 1 level.  However, hampered by injury, he chose to complete his under graduate studies in Tucson at the University of Arizona.  He is currently a math tutor, a substitute teacher at Trabuco, and works with Coach Ayers throughout the year as a track coach


Boys Long Jump and Triple Jump - Nikki Hutchinson

This will be Nikki Hutchinson's first year coaching at Trabuco Hills High school. Prior to coaching at Trabuco, Nikki coached horizontal jumps at Orange Lutheran High School from 2011 to 2014. She coached with Coach Ayers at 2013 and won a D.3 CIF Team Title in 2013 and 2014.  

Nikki Hutchinson is an alumni from THHS and competed on the Track and Field team in horizontal jumps. Nikki later received a scholarship and competed for California State University of Los Angles in jumps. 

At Cal State LA Nikki was a four time All American, 2008 West Regional Field Athlete and the 2008 Indoor Triple Jump Division II National Champion. 

Coach Hutchinson has been married to Eugene for four years. 


Pole Vault - Luke Newman


Assistant Pole Vault -   Dan Carillo

Dan Carrillo is now in his 10th year as an assistant pole vault coach at Trabuco Hills HS when not away on business in Alaska, Nevada or some other state. His son, class of 2009 and daughter, class of 2012 pole vaulted and lettered at THHS. Coach Dan is a 3rd generation Pole Vaulter and vaulted in high school using aluminum poles. His younger brother vaulted at Cal State Northridge using first generation fiber glass poles. His father vaulted at Cal State LA using bamboo poles. His brother coaches pole vaulting at Valencia HS in Valencia.

Dan holds a chemistry degree from UCSB and a Masters in Health Administration from Chapman University.


High Jump  -  Ron Lee

Ron Lee is a USA Track & Field Level 2 Jumps Coach with a specialization in the high jump event. He has been coaching high school and youth high jumpers for 10 years.  Prior to arriving at Trabuco Hills, he coached the high jumpers for four years at JSerra Catholic High School.  While at JSerra, he coached a freshman jumper from a 5’8” personal best to 7’1” and a state championship as a sophomore.  That athlete ultimately jumped 7’2 ½“ as a senior and earned a full scholarship to UC Berkeley. 

In 2008, Coach Lee started a USATF track team, the USA High Jump Club.  He has coached four national high jump champions, including his 8th grade son, Sean.  Sean has won five straight USATF Junior Olympic National Championships and he holds four age group national high jump records. Coach Lee’s daughter, Samantha, is a senior at Trabuco Hills. She is also an accomplished jumper herself, qualifying for CIF twice and competing several times at the Junior Olympic Nationals.

Coach Lee competed in the high jump for more than 16 years and has a personal best of 7’2”. He was a high school state champion in Oregon with a personal best of 6’11”. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1991, he has work in the legal field for the State of California for the past 22 years. In 2002, he got back into track and won a USATF Masters National Championship during the 2003 season and had a personal best of 6’7”. In a quest to maintain a competitive technical edge and keep his #1 U.S. masters level ranking, he gathered a great deal of knowledge about the high jump event. In 2008, Coach Lee utilized this knowledge and wrote and published “The Ultimate High Jump Manual”, which is a comprehensive 150 page book. In 2009, he completed a high jump technique video, “High Jump Technique 101”, which covers the technical aspects of the event. In 2013, Coach Lee earned a USA Track & Field Level 2 certification in the jumps. He is currently working on a Level 3 certificate, which is the highest level that can be obtained by a coach.

Coach Lee has been the high jump coach at Trabuco Hills since the fall of 2010. “My greatest satisfaction from coaching is seeing an athlete’s joy and excitement after clearing new heights and obtaining success after all the hard preparation.” 


Girls Long Jump and Triple Jump - Monica Todd

Coach Todd graduated from Howard University in 2015 with a degree in Graphic Design.  This is her first year as a track coach at Trabuco. She graduated from Trabuco Hills in 2010 where she played soccer her first 2 years and ran Varsity all 4 years on the track team.

Coach Todd currently holds 6 school Records, 8 Grade Level records. In 2008 Coach Todd became the Junior Olympic National Champion in Long Jump and was 3rd fastest in the nation for 400h. In 2009 she went to State Championships for 300h and placed 10th. At OC Championships she won the long jump in 2008 and 2010. In 2009 won the 300h and was on the winning 2010 4x4 team which helped Trabuco win the Women’s Varsity OC Championship title. She earned all-league and all-county honors all 4 years for 300h and long jump. Also during her time here Trabuco Hills won the Sea View League championship 3 times in a row. Coach Todd was recruited to San Diego State but then finished her track career at Howard University where she won a conference title and qualified for NCAA regionals in 2014. Unfortunately due to knee surgery she had to end her track career but is very excited to use her knowledge to help her fellow Mustangs.


Boys Shot/Disc - Ryan McHale

Coach McHale enters into his first year coaching shot and discus for THHS.  Coach McHale spent the past two season coaching the boys and girls throws at JSerra Catholic High School.  In those two years at Jserra Catholic High School coach Mchale's throwers place in the top three in league both years, went to CIF both years. In 2014 won the Division III CIF title in discus, placed in the top six at masters and competed at the state meet.
Coach McHale is a graduate from Fountain Valley High School and San Jose State University.  At San Jose State, coach McHale played on the school's football team at the defensive end position.  Coach McHale graduated with his bachelors in History and continued his education getting his teaching credential from SJSU in the spring of 2010. He currently teaches History at Trabuco Hills.


Girls Shot/Disc - Chris Watkins


Shot/Disc - Michael Pedro

Coach Pedro enters his 4th year coaching shot put and discus.  His journey with coaching at Trabuco started as a way to spend more time with his daughters who were both throwers on the track team.  His oldest daughter has recently started her freshman year as a NCAA collegiate thrower on an athletic scholarship for track and field.  Coach Pedro's goal is to not only coach the athletes, but to be a positive influence and teach them skills that can be used on and off the field. 

Coach Pedro is a graduate of Irvine High School where he formerly held the school record for Discus.  He is currently a Director of IT in the financial industry where he holds two masters’ degrees (MBA, & MSML) focusing on managing IT infrastructures.


Assistant Sprints Boys - Alex Donigian

Coach Alex Donigian joins THHS as a first year coach. Attending Western Washington University, he earned his degree in bio-cultural anthropology with an emphasis on philosophies in sport. His academic merits include making the dean’s list twice and teacher assisting as an undergraduate.

Currently competing as professional athlete, Coach Donigian boasts impressive personal bests in the sprints of: 100m – 10.22, 200m – 20.93, & 60m – 6.71. He intends on breaking 10 seconds in the 100m, and joining Team USA as an Olympic Hopeful. As a student-Athlete at THHS, Coach Donigian had a seemingly unremarkable high school career from a performance standpoint; after years of dedication to the sport, he has grown into the fastest athlete to have ever attended THHS. This is why his coaching philosophy centers around the belief that anyone can be anything.
