Head Boys Coach/Sprints/Relays/Hurdles -   J.T. Ayers

Coach JT Ayers is a 2 time Orange County Track Coach of the Year (2013, 2016) and has been coaching Track and Field for 14 years. Coach Ayers led his team at Orange Lutheran High School to its first CIF Division 3 Championship in 2013. After that, he took over at his Alma Mater, Trabuco Hills High School, as Head Coach of the boy's team in 2014. Since then, his athletes have broken 31 grade level and 8 school records, 3 All-Time Orange County Records, and the team has been ranked #1 in Orange County 3 different years (2015, 2016, 2018).

This past season, the Boys 4x100 team placed 4th at the CA State Finals and ran the 2nd fastest 4x100 mark in Orange County History (the fastest was run by Trabuco the previous year). The Boys 4x400 team also placed 4th at the CA State Finals, running a new school record and 7th fastest 4x400 mark in OC History.

Coach Ayers received his B.A in History from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and his Teaching Credential and Masters in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University, Irvine. He is currently the Executive Director of CoachAyers.com, has published work in SimpliFaster.com, and teaches full time at Trabuco Hills High School.  He has been married to his best friend, Jessica, for 15 years and has 4 very active children.

Head Girls Coach/Distance  -  Dennis Kelly

Coach Kelly begins his ninth year as head girls' track and field coach, and will be in charge of girls' sprints and relays. Coach Kelly is also a sophomore English teacher at THHS, teaching both College Prep and Workshop classes, and this past cross country season he coached both girls and boys' freshmen cross country teams.

Coach Kelly attended St. Maria Goretti Grammar School in Long Beach, St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, and earned degrees and a teaching credential at CSU Dominguez Hills. Coach Kelly is married to Erica, and has a very supportive family that he is very proud of.

Head Distance -    Liam Clemons

Coach Clemons enters his 17th year as the boys Head Distance Coach for Track & Field. He is also the Head Coach for boys Cross Country. Coach Clemons has been named the Orange County Coach of the Year twice (2006 and 2011) and the California Coach of the year (2011). His Cross Country teams have won six league titles, four Orange County titles, and two State titles. He has coached multiple CIFSS and State finalist in Track & Field, including the 2010 1600m State Champion, Jantzen Oshier.

Coach Clemons is a full-time member of the Trabuco Hills teaching staff in the Science department. He currently teaches AP Environmental Science and Honors Biology. He attended Humboldt State University, where he earned a BA in Journalism and Mass Communication in 2001. He then earned his teaching credential in Biological Sciences from CSU Fullerton in 2006 and a MA in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University in 2012. Coach Clemons' competitive running experience ranges from 800m to the Marathon.

His most notable achievements are qualifying for, and finishing, the Boston Marathon in 2016 and 2017. In 1995, he captained his high school Cross Country team to a Div. 1 State Championship. In college, he was the NorCal Champion in the 3000m Steeplechase and finished 5th at the State Championships while attending American River College. Coach Clemons and his wife, Melissa, have been married for 17 years and have two sons, Micah and Lucan

Boy Sprints/Hurdles - Mickey Miela

Long Jump and Triple Jump - Matt Martinez

Coach Matt Martinez is entering his 16th year as a high school track and field coach. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from California State University Northridge and Masters in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University, Irvine. Coach Martinez discovered a passion for coaching track and field at a young age and has since worked diligently to refine his track knowledge and coaching style.

Although he has a deep appreciation and respect for every event area in the sport, he became a jump specialist in both the horizontal and vertical jumping events, even earning a Level II certification from USA Track and Field in those areas. Besides coaching track and field, Coach Martinez has coached boys and girls high school cross country, boys’ varsity soccer, and youth gymnastics.

He has a love for helping student-athletes achieve their goals both on and off the track, and is committed to team values, and developing young athletes using a holistic approach.

Pole Vault - Sarah Yee

This will be Sarah Yee’s second year coaching at Trabuco Hills High School. Prior to coaching at THHS, Sarah coached pole vault at El Toro HS in 2018.

Coach Yee was the first female vaulter at MVHS and placed 4th at state in 1997. Sarah went on to compete in division 1 soccer (4 seasons) and track & field (2 seasons) at Brigham Young University. In 1999, Sarah placed 10th at the NCAA division l finals. In 2001, Coach Yee was named to the NSCAA Scholar All-American team. Coach Yee majored in Health Sciences with an emphasis in Education and minored in Drivers Education.

Besides coaching vault, Sarah has many years of coaching soccer and working with youth. She has a love for teaching youth to set goals (in and out of their athletic pursuits) and guides them in putting in the work they need to do to attain their goals. Sarah has been married to Justin for 18 years and has five children (Morgan, Daniel, Taylor, Dallin, Ryan).

Assistant Pole Vault -   Dan Carillo

Dan Carrillo is now in his 11th year as an assistant pole vault coach at Trabuco Hills HS. His son, class of 2009 and daughter, class of 2012 pole vaulted and lettered at THHS. Coach Dan is a 3rd generation Pole Vaulter and vaulted in high school using aluminum poles. His younger brother vaulted at Cal State Northridge using first generation fiber glass poles. His father vaulted at Cal State LA using bamboo poles.

Dan holds a chemistry degree from UCSB and a Masters in Health Administration from Chapman University.

Girl’s Hurdles - Shelby McQuitty

Coach McQuitty is entering her 4th year as Trabuco’s Girl’s Hurdles Coach. A 2012 alumni, Shelby ran the 100m and 300m hurdles. She also did high jump and participated in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Coach McQuitty began her coaching career to fulfill credit for her BS degree in Kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton.

After falling back in love with THHS Track and Field and graduating in 2017 with a degree in Exercise Science, she has committed herself to coaching the girl’s hurdle team.

Director of Quality Control - Nathan Hagihara

Nathan Hagihara is in his third year on the coaching staff of Trabuco Hills Track & Field, where he serves as the Quality Assurance Director. Nathan graduated from Trabuco Hills in 2017, where he ran track for all four years. He was a member of the sprints team, running in the 100-meter dash. However, he was tapped to serve as the team's first team manager beginning his sophomore year. In this role, Nathan helped run the meets, overseeing the social media, and more. He was a graduate of the International Baccalaureate program at THHS, where he was also an AP Scholar, earned a Spanish Seal of Biliteracy and was awarded the California Golden State Seal of Merit. Nathan now is in his third-year at Cal State Fullerton, where he is studying History and minors in Cinema and Television Arts. He is also enrolled at Biola University's Talbot College. Nathan oversees many logistical aspects of our program's operations, including student development, facility maintenance, social media/communications, and more. Nathan is an aspiring educator, working at SVUSD school sites assisting with Spanish education and social science education.
